After just a few words the trial version stops working. No way to review the words that you have heard, just a demand that you purchase the upgrade. I declined and deleted this app because the few words that I saw, were not enough for me to decide if this app were worth buying or not. A better way to learn is to use the website : Memrise.

Theres no sound on my version. Completely hopeless!

I use this on the iPad mini and like it a lot. But Im only giving it 3 stars for this reason: at least one word in the app has the wrong tones (shuǐguǒ) and will penalize you for answering correctly. The draw the tone mode doesnt work at all and cant recognize what you draw. Try harder, people...

Very nice app for training pinyin. The only thing I would improve is an option to stop after incorrectly answered questions so that you can repeatedly play back both the incorrect and correct answers for comparison before proceeding.

This helps so much. Wish you could input specific vocabulary though. Overall, wonderful app!

Interesting

There are limits to how well the audio on an iPhone can reproduce high-pitched initial sounds, so I dont know if it is helping me recognize things like q and c. But it is really improving my ability to recognize tones, especially the tone when I hear two syllables back-to-back. When I started using this app, I was not doing much better than I could just by guessing, but gradually I am becoming able to recognize particular combinations. It is training my ear at an age when I need all the help I can get.

Grateful for this app which initially reveals Im right where I know Im at. I am sure with practice I will develop my ability to recognize the sounds better.

You all have got to give this app a try. You have nothing to lose. I was unsure if this app would be up to par given the plethora of crappy Mandarin learning apps on the App Store. I was blown away. This app is phenomenal. Love at first sight!
